59 Days of Summer Remaining | 6 Things Every Mom Should Do

As I was reflecting today I realized that I was in dire need to do somethings for myself to keep me focused, driven, renewed and refreshed for me and my family.  It dawned on me that we only have 59 more days remaining until summer is official over and we jump back into our regular fall routines again. Before you know it, the leaves will start to change and cold weather will be upon us again. So now is your time to take full advantage of these long summer days and enjoy some quality, renewing moments to help you get your fall started right.

Here are some easy, fun and cost-effective enjoyable things you can do to revive you and start the fall off to a great start. And more so, these are just things that every mom should do to feel renewed and refreshed.

1.  See the sunset or sunrise

There was never a night or a problem that could defeat sunrise or hope. – Benard Williams
Regardless of where you live in the world, decide one morning that you are going to wake up early enough to step out on your porch or go in your backyard and experience the sunrise or set.  There is something very lovely, and moving about seeing the sunrise. It’s almost as if the earth and life is revealing itself to you all over again. It’s a new day and a new chance to do something great.  Take that moment to reflect on your life, your family and your purpose in life.  Trust me, you will feel like a new woman after doing it.  Heck, you might just decide to make it a weekly routine so that you can begin fresh again everyday.

2.  Lay on a beach or pool for hours

love builds up the broken wall

and straightens the crooked path.

love keeps the stars in the firmament

and imposes rhythm on the ocean tides

each of us is created of it

and i suspect

each of us was created for it”

–Maya Angelou

Who could have said it best but Maya Angelou!  Again, there is something refreshing about the beach and water. Regardless of your situation every one can find a pool (community park or friend) or maybe you live close to beach water. Whatever your situation, find time over these next 59 days to carve out a few hours to take in the sun and simply do nothing but relax and rest.  Your body and mind will thank you later!

3.  Wear that cute dress/outfit you bought months ago

“Over the years I have learned that what is important in a dress is the woman who is wearing it.”  – Yves Saint Lauren

You know what I’m talking about! Somewhere in your closet is that cute dress or outfit you saw as soon as the first hint of spring came around the corner.  For whatever reason, it’s still in your closet and you haven’t worn it yet.  Now is the time.  Get pretty, Go out for a date night or just go out by yourself and have a great lunch. Whatever you do, just do it! That dress will not wear itself and you owe it to yourself. You’ve put everyone first this summer, now do something for you. And while you are in that dress, remind yourself of how beautiful, talented, gifted and blessed that you are.

You’re worth it!

4.  Go to the Spa : Get a massage or facial

“To me luxury is to be at home with my daughter, and the occasional massage doesn’t hurt.” – Olivia Newton-John

I woke up with a headache 2 days in a row.  I immediately went to the doctor. Nothing major the doctor said, “Just stress!”  I guess, Graduate school, a 2-year-old, a husband, moving, family, running and starting a business and all other sorts of things could cause this nothing “major stress.” But I owe it to myself to make sure that I am as healthy for my family and all those wonderful people who I love. It’s amazing what an hour of pure and simple bliss can do your body and mind.  And if you are on a budget, don’t worry. It doesn’t have to cost an entire check. I often visit the local schools where students are studying to become estheticians or studying cosmetology.  Check out your local listings on great schools that offer facials, body work, etc.  You might even make this a monthly get-away.

Your body and your mind will thank  you later!

5.  Get a new haircut, color or style

“People always ask me how long it takes to do my hair. I don’t know, I’m never there.” – Dolly Parton

This is pretty self explanatory ladies.  We all know that changing up your style, getting a fresh-cut and color makes you feel like a new woman. So what are you waiting for… Just go get it done!

6.  Girls night out!

“Good girls go to heaven, Bad girls go everywhere.” -Mae West

I have to admit, This is one of my favorites. If you haven’t done this already, you need to have yourself a good ole’ fashion girls night out with some of your friends that you know you can laugh the most with, be honest with and just be yourself.  These are the times that you never forget and the ones that create the most memories.  Plan a date in the final days of summer to get pretty, wear that red lipstick you forgot you had, put on that cute outfit and go out and have a great time.  Friends have a way of bringing out the best in us.  Also, pay it forward… reach out to someone who you’ve been meaning to connect with and invite her too. You  never know how much she might need this night out as much as you.

Have fun and live it up in these final days of summer!
