A Reflection on the first year of being a Mommy!

I simply cannot believe that one year has already come and gone. It was this time last year that we were eagerly awaiting the arrival of our sweetheart Zoie Alexandria. I can remember it so clearly. I was in the hospital and my husband was rubbing my stomach talking to the baby. We couldn’t wait until she arrived. Little did either of us know what was awaiting us.

Well I can certainly say that this is one experience that will forever change your world. It did for me. Parenthood, motherhood and fatherhood is not for the faint at heart. Honestly, I don’t think there is anything that could prepare you for what is to come. And I don’t even mean the sleepless nights, spit ups and first fall scare. I mean the actual mental and emotional changes that happen to each of us moms.

I remember bringing her home the first day. I was exhausted. All I wanted was sleep. But there was a little human being in the other room that I now had to care for. That little one didn’t care that I hadn’t slept in 72 hours. She was totally dependent on me. That was when it hit me. I am responsible for guiding the direction of another person. What I say and do from this point forward will have an impact on her future direction. If that alone doesn’t make you perk up and pay attention, I don’t know what will.

Now I know there are a lot of people who have babies and they continue to be and do what they are accustomed to, but for me this was life changing. As I started to reflect on the past year, I couldn’t help but think of how this little precious soul has made me a better woman and person. Giving life to someone else I believe is a new beginning for yourself as well.

Each day my daughter challenges me to become a better person. From my attitude, to my selflessness, to my honesty. Having a deep desire for her to become an awesome woman gives me the energy each day to give her 110%. In addition, being a mother also encourages me to be a better wife to my husband. I watch my darling husband work hard each day to provide for his family. His selflessness is also motivation for me.

With our every day busy schedules it’s easy to let time fly by. It’s so important to take the time to reflect on our accomplishments as a mother. I hope that every woman takes the time to reflect each year on the joys of motherhood. Keep a journal of the exciting days in your journey. This is truly a blessing and you are a gift. Cherish the moments and cherish your special gift of life. Cherish You!
