To all the people who have redefined what it means to be beautiful, sexy and black – Viola Davis
What an incredible moment in our entertainment history. Viola Davis, The first black woman to win an Emmy in a leading role in a series. You may know for her leading role in the hit drama How to Get Away With Murder. Davis made history at Sunday night’s Emmy Awards when she won for best actress in a drama. And if you can believe it… The first time a black woman as ever won.
I was working in my home office when I received the email from my husband with a link to her speech. I actually cried a tear not because she was the first black woman, but because I understand the barriers that it takes to break through in any industry. It’s unfortunate that so many black women feel this disconnect and hundreds of years later still fighting to prove themselves. It was motivating to see her standing on that stage proud and confident of who she is.
Viola…Thank you for the encouragement.. and Thank you for your speech! You have given every woman who has ever fought for anything a extra little nudge to keep on pushing! And by the way…. you have motivated this beautiful, sexy black woman to keep the faith!
Congratulations and Thank you for such a powerful speech
